Launching of Health Insurance Awareness and Advocacy Project in Akwa Ibom State

Uyo2026

Problem Statement

Bridging the gap in promoting equitable heath Insurance coverage financing for vulnerable populations in rural communities of Akwa Ibom State through awareness campaign, advocacy, stakeholders engagement and social mobilization strategy.

However, access to affordable health insurance remains a pressing concern for residents of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. And despite the effort of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA), enrollment level remains low, particularly among the vulnerable and informal sectors' population which is largely due to limited awareness, misconceptions and inadequate community engagement. Therefore, to address this gap, GLIEHSD in partnership with AKSHIA and other development partners proposes a 2 day intervention program, comprising of:

1. A Health Insurance walk show - to drive massive awareness across key locations in Uyo, slated on Wednesday 29th April, 2026.

2. A community workshop to provide in-dept education, stakeholders engagement and enrollment support on Thursday 30th April, 2026.

This project aims to reach over 5000 beneficiaries target, improve knowledge on health insurance benefits and facilitate at least 100 - 2000 new enrollments into the available schemes.
